After 15 years of having seizures, I became an epilepsy advocate and one of my Facebook friends who does not have epilepsy suggested that maybe I could use my artwork in my advocacy, so I did a painting called The Shield of an Epilepsy Warrior” which can be seen with other paintings I have done in the banner at the top of the page. After completing it I felt the urge to do more awareness painting and ended starting the project naming it after the shield in the first painting. To date I have done over 150 paintings and had a book published with the first 120 of them. The image on the left shows all 120 canvases in the 10 completed series, each with different themes which are featured in the book in the order in which they were completed. Below is a photo gallery of each series in the same order. I do most of my work of sharing the images of the painting that can be down loaded to share or you can share the post with much more detailed explanation and more information. If you fallow the Facebook page you will be notified each time a new painting is shared. Thanks, Chris Arceneaux
Your support and contributions will enable us to cover our expenses and fund my mission of spreading epilepsy awareness and education around the world,
This is a new improved version of the BRAIN WAVES painting. I noticed the phrase "My brainwaves are so powerful doctors study them" has been getting more and more popular, so I figured it was time to do a better version.
#1 THE SHIELD OF AN EPILEPSY WARRIOR
This is the first awareness painting I ever did which shows a brain on the shield surrounded
by the things we use to protect it from the lighting blots of the seizures in the background.
#1 TO THE RECUE
After doing the first 12 paintings I stopped for awhile, but had the
urge to do more. Then one day a FB friend suggested this idea
for a painting so, I started a new series named after it
leading to the 12 painting series system I have kept using.
#1 NOT A JOKE
Seizures are not a laughing matter! there are over 50,000 epilepsy related deaths in the US
alone each year out of the 3.4 million people living with epilepsy. Using that percentage
ratio on the 65 million people worldwide with epilepsy 910,000 then figuring in the higher percentages which obviously happen in lesser developed countries the total is over one million.
#1 ACCEPTED
65 million people around the world should not be accepted not rejected by
society because we have a medical condition that causes us to have seizures.
No respectable person would reject us, laugh at us, or bully us for it!
#1 IMPOSSIBLE
Despite what most people believe and joke about it IS IMPOSSIBLE to swallow your
tongue during a Tonic Clonic seizure! There are two reasons why first is that it is attached
to the floor of your mouth by the Frenulum and second it is the strongest muscle in our
bodies which stiffens up with all our other muscles not allowing it to go back that far.
#1 LOVE SOMEONE
This painting is to show our support for someone with
epilepsy and it really looks great on a white T-shirt.
#1 WORKING TOGETHER
Despite the differences in our beliefs, we can all still work together
in spreading epilepsy awareness without problems.
#1 STRESS
One of the most common triggers even more common than flashing lights is stress.
#1 SHAKE OR YELL
Shaking or yelling at the person will not get them to come
out of the seizure and can only cause more harm than good.
#1 NOT ALL PHOTOSENSITIVE
Although flashing lights being the most well-known trigger by the public from
all the seizure warnings shown before movies and other events with bright or
flashing lights some data indicates only about 3% of people are photosensitive.
#1 EPILEPSY AWARENESS
Over 65,000,000 people around the world are living with epilepsy and increasing every
day it is not a rare condition, has many different causes and can developed at any age.
