EACH COMPLETED SERIES HAS 12 PAINTINGS
#1 ANGELMAN
Angelman syndrome is a condition caused by a change in a gene, called a
genetic change. Angelman syndrome causes delayed development, problems
with speech and balance, mental disability, and, sometimes, seizures.
#1 FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Everyone wants their freedom, but with having uncontrolled seizures the person
does need to realize that they do need people watching to help keep them safe.
#1 NOT TWO CASES
No two cases of epilepsy are the same even within the same type of epilepsy
(Seizure Disorder). There are many same differences that make them different
including how many focal points they have, where they are in the brain, what triggers their seizures, what type of seizures they have, how strong their get and how often they occur.
#1 50,000 DEATHS
According to the Epilepsy Foundation epilepsy causes more deaths than Breast Cancer does, but because “sex sells” breast cancer has more awareness than any other medical condition. In the US alone each year epilepsy causes 50,000 deaths and Breast Cancer causes 40,000 deaths. There are no T-shirts saying I used to have epilepsy because epilepsy is not curable.
#1 HIGH VOLTAGE
The painting is a humorous warning sign that our brains produce high voltage. LOL
#1 OBSTACLE
We need to see epilepsy as an obstacle to overcome instead of
seeing it as a barrier stopping us from living our lives to their fullest.
This painting shows people using labels for us which should be used. Epileptics groups us
by our medical condition and the word still carries a lot of the stigma with it because of what was done to “epileptics” in the past. We are not cursed or possessed, mentally ill, insane, burdens,
and we defiantly are not faking which some think we would do just to get attention.
#1 MYOCLONIC
Myoclonic seizures a sudden jerking for no apparent reason they can just be one jerk or respective. If you ever had a time when you were sleeping and got waken by a sudden feeling like you were fall causing your arm and legs to move to catch yourself, that was a myoclonic reaction, but not a seizure, My Myoclonic seizure activity was always during my sleep and I am still on medicine for it. They did not wake me up, but my wife could feel the movement of the mattress.
#1 BOTH PERSPECTIVES
Epilepsy is life altering for the person who has it and all the people
who care about them especially family and others who love them.
#1 HOPE
While living with epilepsy ourselves we can reach out and
Help Other People with Epilepsy H.O.P.E. because we are
a worldwide community of 65 million people all living with it
